| We
felt the most appealing, moving site we visited was the "Dawn of
Happiness," Sukothai, the country's largest collection of ruins
from the 13th century. Once, the kingdom of Siam's magical and spiritual
center, it has many well-preserved columns, shrines, temples and
statues. Here King Ramkamhaeng left chronicles of his accomplishments,
including inventing the Thai script, the spread of Theravada Buddhism
and developing relations with China. |
